“Gungnam Style” is a single by Psi, a South Korean artist. The song and a funny dance (seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0) has become viral around the globe.
The song was released on July 15, 2012 and the music video has been viewed 436 million times on YouTube as of today! The video has been a source for countless parodies, flash mobs around the world, covers by music artists such as Nelly Furtado and Maroon 5, and it has been featured on many media outlets.
Psi’s purpose of the song and dance is to poke fun at the high-class, sophisticated Gungnam district of Seoul.
UWO students created a video using their take on the Gungnam Style dance and it’s pretty hilarious!
